In collaboration with software engineer Hynek Kydlíček, we have created a visual accompaniment for Arvo Pärt's composition Spiegel im Spiegel.
We have attempted to mirror (a!) the composition's scheme, which consists of three main building blocks: 1) refrain, 2) ascending melody and 3) descending melody. These motifs have their counterpart in the type of landscape that is generated. The volume of violin drives gradual change of the picture. In line with the idea of unfurling and stepped rendering of the whole melody, the picture starts in black and white and becomes gradually saturated and more detailed along the course of the piece.
